Different strokes for different folks!
I didn't teach Kenneth to read. We made up "life experience" stories, constructed "word pictures" and studied phonetics. We translated newspaper articles and made up grocery lists. We found recipes containing lesson words and spelling in magazines. We saved labels and box tops to interpret.
I didn't teach Kenneth to read. I helped him believe in himself-to know that he could succeed by setting goals and working hard. I taught Kenneth that he was as bright as anyone else on the planet. Then Kenneth taught himself to read.
